LOCK HAVEN — Although the Department of Environmental Protection has lifted a drought watch in Clinton County, the city of Lock Haven’s water system is still implementing its drought contingency plan.

The watch was lifted by DEP earlier this week in Clinton and 46 other counties, with 20 still in place.

According to Public Works Director Tony Stopper, the city is still encouraging its water customers to conserve water.

“The City of Lock Haven water system is still in a drought contingency and all users of the system should be watchful of their consumption until otherwise noted,” Stopper said.

The contingency remains in place as minimal rainfall plagued the county throughout the summer.

The plan requests residents reduce usage for non-essential uses by 20 percent.

Some examples are by not letting faucets run, reducing shower times and frequency, using dishwashers or laundry appliances with full loads, avoiding watering landscapes and washing vehicles.

For more information about how to conserve water visit the city’s website lockhavenpa.gov/dept/public-works/water/savewater/. Residents are able to calculate their water footprint and learn how to help conserve water.
