Bidets are an excellent addition to any bathroom as they offer a vastly superior hygiene experience compared to toilet paper. However, like other bathroom fixtures, these modern marvels require cleaning to maintain their functionality. While it isn't uncommon for homeowners to use abrasive powders and chlorine-based cleaners like bleach to clean their bidets, it's not recommended. Such harsh chemicals can degrade the gaskets and O-rings attached to a bidet, leading to internal leakages. They may even cause the bidet's plastic to discolor, corrode, and develop cracks, which may void its warranty. So to prevent such issues, opt for a milder cleaning approach involving household staples.

Soapy water and white vinegar solutions are good options for keeping bidets squeaky clean. Being a weak acid, vinegar is an ideal cleaning tool as it can remove stubborn stains and mineral buildup on the toilet without causing undue damage. Moreover, its antibacterial properties work wonders for disinfecting the bidet.

The cleaning process remains similar for bidet toilet seats and attachments. But extra care may be necessary for electric bidets, as they may malfunction when exposed to water. So ensure to unplug your electric bidet before cleaning. To intensively wipe down your bidet, add vinegar or mild antibacterial soap to a damp cloth and use it to scrub off any stains. Allow it to air dry. Repeat this process to clean the underside of your bidet seat. You should also consider rinsing the deodorizing filter with water to ensure a well-rounded cleaning before plugging the bidet back in.

Further, cleaning the bidet nozzles is equally important. While many electric bidets come fitted with self-cleaning nozzles, cleaning them manually is a good option. Simply hold down the cleaning button for three seconds to help the nozzle stick out, and wipe it off using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a damp cloth. As for other nozzle variants, gently scrub them with a vinegar solution every two weeks. Consider soaking the detachable nozzle tip in vinegar for two to four hours to clear blockages. Finally, spray a disinfectant on your bidet, and let it dry. Don't forget to clean your bidet every week to keep it fresh and sanitary.
